How to use this calculator
- Enter today’s price for the car or the home down payment.
- Set years to purchase, price inflation and expected return.
- Read future cost and the SIP or lumpsum to have cash ready.
Formula and worked example
Future cost = today’s price × (1 + price inflation)^years. The required SIP is the amount whose step-up future value equals that cost at the expected return, and the lumpsum is its present value.
The exact formula
Future cost: C = price today × (1 + price inflation)^Y Monthly SIP: C ÷ FV(a ₹1 step-up SIP over Y years at the expected return) Lumpsum: C ÷ (1 + r)^Y
Worked example. ₹50 L today · 7 years · 6% inflation · 10% return · no step-up → future cost ₹75.18 L, SIP ₹62,692/mo, or ₹38.58 L as a lumpsum today.

Assumptions and limits
- Price inflation default 6%; expected return default 10% (a shorter goal usually carries a lower-risk mix).
- Return constant; the SIP steps up each year if a step-up is set.
- Price inflation and investment return are separate assumptions.
- Does not include loan EMI for the balance amount—pair with the EMI calculator.
- Down-payment planning only unless you set the target to the full price.

Car down payment calculator
Car purchases often mix savings and a loan. Size the down payment first: a ₹50 lakh vehicle today becomes about ₹75.18 lakh in 7 years at 6% price inflation, needing roughly ₹62,692 monthly at 10% if you fund the full inflated price with a flat SIP. If you only need 20% down, scale the target first. Pair the residual loan with the EMI calculator so total outflow stays affordable. Write the car home goal inputs you trust into your annual review note so next year’s rerun of “Car down payment calculator” starts from recorded figures.
Car goal calculator
A car goal calculator is a dated savings plan for a depreciating asset—so honesty about timeline matters. The defaults push a ₹50 lakh today’s price to about ₹75.18 lakh after 7 years at 6%. Funding that entirely via SIP at 10% needs about ₹62,692 monthly. Many households should target a smaller car or a longer wait rather than stretch equity SIPs for a depreciating purchase. When household opinions differ on risk for car home goal under “Car goal calculator”, fund the more conservative case first and treat any extra debit as optional top-ups.
Home purchase goal calculator
Home down payments are larger and usually less flexible than car goals. Use today’s property price slice you intend to pay as equity, inflate it, then solve for SIP. Scaling the same maths as the ₹50 lakh / 7y example shows how fast property inflation lifts the target—about ₹75.18 lakh at 6%. Loan eligibility still depends on income and FOIR; this page does not underwrite a mortgage. Keep emergency reserves outside the down-payment folio. If the car home goal instalment for “Home purchase goal calculator” looks unaffordable, cut the target or add years before you inflate the assumed return unrealistically.

Frequently asked questions
Should the target be full price or down payment?
Usually the down payment or equity portion you will pay in cash. Model the loan separately with the EMI calculator.
What inflation fits cars vs homes?
Cars often track mid-single digits; city property can run higher. Use local price experience, not a national average alone.
Is funding a car with equity SIPs wise?
Only with a horizon long enough to take risk. Near-term car buys belong in safer instruments.
Can I combine this with an existing RD?
Estimate the RD maturity, subtract from the target, then solve for the remaining SIP gap.
Does this include registration and insurance?
Add those costs into today’s price if you will pay them from the same corpus.
What return should I assume for a 3-year goal?
Prefer conservative rates. Short goals should not rely on aggressive equity assumptions.
How do step-ups help?
A yearly SIP increase lowers the starting debit. Enable step-up if salary should rise over the saving years.
Can an advisor reuse these inputs?
Yes. Share the inputs and the result screenshot with an AMFI-registered distributor so they can map the maths to products without changing the formula.
