A regular SIP invests a fixed amount every month. A step-up SIP raises that amount by a fixed percentage each year, usually 5% to 15%, lined up with a salary increment. The higher instalments also compound, so two people who started at the same ₹5,000 can finish decades apart if one never raised the SIP and the other did.
Worked illustration only (not a forecast): start at ₹10,000 a month for 20 years at an assumed 12% a year. A flat SIP finishes near ₹92 lakh. The same start with a 10% yearly step-up finishes nearer ₹1.9 crore, because later years contribute more capital that still has time to grow. Change the rate or step-up in the calculator; real fund returns will differ.
That is why step-up sits at the centre of how we invest with clients. You start with an amount that is comfortable now, not a stretch. When income rises, the plan rises with it, without reinventing the habit. Use the step-up SIP calculator to see the gap on your own numbers. The comparison is also written up in step-up SIP vs regular SIP. Message us if you want the monthly figure sized to a real goal.
For a child’s education or marriage goal, we usually pair a dedicated SIP (often with a step-up) and the right protection so the goal still funds if income stops. See mutual fund investments and the child education calculator.
