Default result

Stepping up 10% a year adds about ₹47.16 L over a flat SIP of the same starting amount. In the final year your instalment is ₹30,580/month.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the starting monthly SIP and the yearly step-up percent.
  2. Set the period and expected return.
  3. Compare total value and final-year instalment with a flat SIP of the same start amount.

Formula and worked example

The future value is worked out month by month: each instalment is added at the start of the month and the balance then grows at the effective monthly rate for the annual return you enter (same as Groww). On every anniversary the instalment steps up. For a flat SIP this gives the same answer as the closed-form formula.

The exact formula

Simulated month by month:
  bₘ = (bₘ₋₁ + Pₘ) × (1 + i)      i = (1 + annual return)^(1/12) − 1
Pₘ is the monthly instalment. P₁ = starting amount; on every 12th month
it is raised by the step-up %: Pₘ₊₁₂ = Pₘ × (1 + step-up).

For a level SIP (step-up 0) this equals the standard closed form
  FV = P × [ ((1+i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i ] × (1 + i)      n = years × 12

Worked example. ₹5,000/mo · 10% step-up · 20 years · 12% → you invest ₹34.36 L, projected value ₹93.16 L. Final-year instalment ₹30,580/mo.

Assumptions and limits

  • Each instalment is invested at the start of the month (annuity-due) — the same basis Groww uses.
  • Monthly rate is the effective equivalent of the annual return (not annual ÷ 12).
  • The step-up is applied on each SIP anniversary.
  • Return is assumed constant. Figures are gross of expense ratio, exit load and tax.
  • Step-up applies on each SIP anniversary; return held constant for the projection.
  • Gross of expenses, exit load and tax.
  • Effective monthly rate so twelve months compound to the annual return you enter.

Step-up SIP calculator with inflation

Raising the SIP each year fights two forces at once: lifestyle creep and price inflation. Starting at ₹5,000 with a 10% yearly step-up for 20 years at 12% grows to about ₹93.16 lakh after investing roughly ₹34.36 lakh. In today’s rupees that corpus buys less if inflation runs near 6%, so pair this page with a real-return conversation. Keep the step-up percentage aligned with expected salary growth, not wishful thinking. Write the step up sip inputs you trust into your annual review note so next year’s rerun of “Step-up SIP calculator with inflation” starts from recorded figures.

Top-up SIP calculator

Top-up language usually means the same thing as step-up: a scheduled rise in the monthly debit. Banks and apps may call it “SIP top-up” or “annual increase.” On the defaults here, a ₹5,000 start stepping 10% yearly for two decades at 12% finishes near ₹93.16 lakh. Confirm whether your AMC applies the increase on the SIP anniversary or the financial year—timing changes the path slightly. Never enable auto top-up if the higher debit would bounce. When household opinions differ on risk for step up sip under “Top-up SIP calculator”, fund the more conservative case first and treat any extra debit as optional top-ups.

Increasing SIP calculator

An increasing SIP calculator shows how a modest start can still fund a large goal when contributions climb. The default path ends around ₹93.16 lakh with a final-year monthly near ₹30,580. That late-career debit is the part households underestimate. Stress-test a 5% step-up as well as 10% so the plan survives a flatter salary curve. If income is commission-based, use a lower base SIP and discretionary lumpsums instead of an aggressive auto-increase. If the step up sip instalment for “Increasing SIP calculator” looks unaffordable, cut the target or add years before you inflate the assumed return unrealistically.

Annual increase SIP calculator

Annual increase SIPs suit salaried investors who revise compensation once a year. Map the increase month to appraisal season so the mandate and the maths match. At 10% yearly growth from ₹5,000 over 20 years and 12% assumed return, invested capital is about ₹34.36 lakh and maturity about ₹93.16 lakh. Skipping two increases mid-way is closer to a flatter SIP—rerun without step-up to see the gap. Write the planned percentage into your SIP instruction, not only this webpage. After you accept the “Annual increase SIP calculator” maths, update nominees and the bank mandate—process gaps undo an otherwise sound step up sip plan.

Step-up SIP meaning

Step-up SIP means the instalment rises by a fixed percentage (or amount) on a schedule while the fund choice stays the same. It is not a new product—just a contribution policy. Compared with a flat ₹5,000 SIP, the stepped path on this page reaches roughly ₹93.16 lakh because later instalments are larger. Caution: a high step-up on a volatile equity fund still needs emergency cash outside the SIP so you do not redeem in a crash. Use the year-wise table to show family when the debit becomes heavier.

Frequently asked questions

When does the step-up happen in this model?

On each SIP anniversary the monthly instalment rises by the percentage you enter. Intra-year amounts stay flat.

Is step-up better than starting with a higher SIP?

A higher flat SIP invests more early and usually wins if you can afford it. Step-up helps when cash flow is tight today but should grow.

Can I step up by a fixed rupee amount instead of a percent?

This calculator uses a percentage. Approximate a rupee hike by converting it to a percent of the current instalment and updating yearly.

What if my appraisal is less than the step-up I modelled?

Lower the percentage and rerun. Keeping an unaffordable step-up schedule is how SIPs get paused.

Does step-up change the expected return assumption?

No. Return and step-up are independent inputs. Raising contributions does not make markets kinder.

How do I see the final monthly debit?

Check the stats and year-wise path; the last years show the stepped instalment after compounding increases.

Should debt funds use step-up too?

You can, but many investors step up equity SIPs and keep debt contributions steadier for goals near withdrawal.

Can an advisor reuse these inputs?

Yes. Share the inputs and the result screenshot with an AMFI-registered distributor so they can map the maths to products without changing the formula.
