Default result

To retire at 60 and fund expenses to age 85, you’d need roughly ₹6.18 Cr. Investing a fixed amount of about ₹25,396/month over the next 28 years gets you there. An illustrative split is ₹3.71 Cr flexible / lumpsum-style and ₹2.47 Cr annuity-style capital.

Illustrative split of the ₹6.18 Cr corpus: about ₹3.71 Cr (60%) kept flexible / lumpsum-style and ₹2.47 Cr (40%) thought of as annuity-style income capital. This is a planning conversation aid, not an NPS or insurer quote.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter today’s monthly expenses, current age, retirement age and the age you plan until.
  2. Set inflation, pre- and post-retirement returns, and any existing retirement corpus.
  3. Read corpus needed, SIP required, and the illustrative annuity versus lumpsum split of the corpus.

Formula and worked example

Expenses are grown to retirement age at the inflation rate. The corpus is the value at retirement of an income stream that keeps rising with inflation for the retirement years and is drawn from the first day of retirement, with the remaining balance earning the post-retirement return. Any existing retirement savings are grown at the pre-retirement return and subtracted; the gap is converted to a fixed monthly SIP. The exact formula is below.

The exact formula

Annual expense at retirement:  A = (monthly expense × 12) × (1 + g)^Y
  Y = years to retirement   g = inflation

Corpus needed at retirement (inflation-growing income for R years, drawn
from the start of retirement, balance earning the post-retirement return r):
  Corpus = A × [ 1 − ((1+g)/(1+r))^R ] ÷ (r − g) × (1 + r)
  R = years in retirement

Existing savings grown:  E′ = existing × (1 + preReturn)^Y
Gap = max(Corpus − E′, 0)
Monthly SIP = Gap ÷ FV(a fixed ₹1 monthly SIP over Y years at the pre-retirement return)

Worked example. ₹50,000/mo expenses today · age 32, retire at 60, plan to 85 · inflation 6% · 12% before / 8% after → expenses at 60 are ₹2,55,584/mo, corpus needed ≈ ₹6.18 Cr, fixed monthly SIP ₹25,396.

Assumptions and limits

  • Expenses rise every year with inflation, through retirement.
  • The monthly SIP stays the same until retirement, with no yearly increase.
  • The corpus keeps earning the post-retirement return while it is drawn down.
  • First withdrawal is taken at the start of retirement (annuity-due).
  • Enter EPF, NPS and other retirement savings as "existing savings". Ignores tax on withdrawals and any pension income.
  • Expenses rise with inflation before and during retirement.
  • Existing corpus grows at the pre-retirement return and reduces the SIP gap.
  • Annuity-style split on the page is illustrative for conversation, not a product quote.

Results are illustrations. Actual outcomes depend on markets, interest rates, taxes and charges, none of which are guaranteed.

Retirement calculator with inflation

Inflation is why a ₹50,000 lifestyle today can need about ₹2,55,584 a month by retirement in the default run. This calculator grows expenses, then sizes a corpus for an inflation-linked drawdown. The sample needs roughly ₹6.18 crore and a SIP near ₹25,396. Ignore inflation and you will under-save by crores. Re-run with 5% and 7% inflation to see how sensitive the corpus is. Write the retirement inputs you trust into your annual review note so next year’s rerun of “Retirement calculator with inflation” starts from recorded figures.

How much do I need to retire in India?

“How much do I need?” depends on spending, ages and returns—not a viral multiple alone. Under the defaults (₹50,000 expenses, age 32→60, plan to 85), the corpus lands near ₹6.18 crore. That number falls if you already have EPF/NPS balances—enter them in existing corpus. It rises if you retire earlier or spend more. Use the SIP output (₹25,396 in the sample) as the funding plan, then stress-test a lower pre-retirement return. When household opinions differ on risk for retirement under “How much do I need to retire in India?”, fund the more conservative case first and treat any extra debit as optional top-ups.

Retirement SIP calculator for 10, 20 or 30 years

Years to retirement change everything. A 28-year runway in the default ages supports a SIP around ₹25,396 toward a ₹6.18 crore gap. Compress that to 10–15 years and the debit jumps sharply; stretch toward 30 years and it eases. When the horizon is short, cutting planned retirement spending beats assuming heroic equity returns. Pair long runways with a step-up SIP so contributions track salary. If the retirement instalment for “Retirement SIP calculator for 10, 20 or 30 years” looks unaffordable, cut the target or add years before you inflate the assumed return unrealistically.

Retirement corpus calculator India

Indian retirement planning mixes EPF, NPS, PPF and mutual funds. This corpus calculator estimates the mutual-fund-style gap after growing any existing balances you enter. The sample gap is about ₹6.18 crore with no prior savings. Treat PPF/EPF as part of existing corpus when you know the balances. The 60/40 lumpsum-versus-annuity illustration is only a conversation aid—not an NPS exit rule or insurer quote. After you accept the “Retirement corpus calculator India” maths, update nominees and the bank mandate—process gaps undo an otherwise sound retirement plan.

Frequently asked questions

What spending should I enter?

Today’s essential monthly spend you want in retirement, not your peak working-age lifestyle with kids’ fees if those end earlier.

How is corpus needed calculated?

Future retirement expenses are present-valued across the retirement years with inflation and a post-retirement return—see the formula block.

Should I count EPF and NPS here?

Yes—enter their expected value at retirement as existing corpus so the SIP only funds the gap.

Why is the SIP so high?

Large expenses, early retirement or low assumed returns inflate it. Adjust lifestyle assumptions before inflating return.

Is the annuity split mandatory?

No. It is an illustrative way to talk about keeping some capital flexible versus earmarking income capital.

What life expectancy should I use?

Many planners test 85–90. Longevity risk means erring longer is safer than planning to 75 only.

Does this replace a full financial plan?

No. It sizes a corpus and SIP. Tax, healthcare inflation and legacy goals need a wider review.

Can an advisor reuse these inputs?

Yes. Share the inputs and the result screenshot with an AMFI-registered distributor so they can map the maths to products without changing the formula.
