How to use this calculator
- Enter how much you invest this year and your old-regime tax slab.
- Choose holding years and expected return.
- Read tax saved, projected value, and the lock-in unlock schedule for SIP-style instalments.
Formula and worked example
Tax saved = 80C-eligible amount (capped at ₹1.5 lakh) × your marginal slab rate × 1.04 for health & education cess. Projected value uses lumpsum compounding at the expected return. Assumes the old tax regime, under which 80C applies.
The exact formula
Tax saved this year = min(investment, ₹1,50,000) × slab rate × 1.04 the 1.04 is the 4% health & education cess Projected value = investment × (1 + r)^years
Worked example. ₹1,50,000 · 30% slab · 7 years · 12% → tax saved ₹46,800; value at 7 years ₹3.32 L.

Assumptions and limits
- Old tax regime — Section 80C does not apply under the new regime.
- Ignores surcharge (applies above ₹50 L income).
- 3-year lock-in. Long-term gains above ₹1.25 L a year are taxed at 12.5%; the value shown is pre-tax.
- Section 80C tax benefit applies only under the old tax regime.
- 80C cap ₹1.5 lakh and cess 4% used in the tax-saved line.
- 3-year lock-in per instalment for SIP units; projected value is pre-LTCG tax.
- Surcharge above high incomes is ignored.

ELSS mutual fund calculator
ELSS funds combine equity mutual fund growth with a Section 80C deduction under the old regime. Enter this year’s investment, your slab and a hold period to see tax saved plus a projected value. At ₹1.5 lakh, 30% slab and 12% for 7 years, tax saved is about ₹46,800 and projected value about ₹3.32 lakh. That growth line is market-linked and pre-LTCG. New-regime taxpayers should treat the tax-saved figure as zero for planning. Write the elss tax saving inputs you trust into your annual review note so next year’s rerun of “ELSS mutual fund calculator” starts from recorded figures.
ELSS SIP calculator
ELSS SIPs lock each instalment for three years from its own allotment date, which is why the unlock schedule on this page is staggered. Modelling ₹1.5 lakh a year as a lumpsum proxy still shows about ₹46,800 tax saved at a 30% slab with cess. For true SIP cash flows, divide the annual 80C budget across months and remember the last instalments unlock later. Do not invest money you may need inside three years. When household opinions differ on risk for elss tax saving under “ELSS SIP calculator”, fund the more conservative case first and treat any extra debit as optional top-ups.
ELSS return calculator
Return in an ELSS calculator is an assumption, not the fund’s trailing CAGR. The default projection grows ₹1.5 lakh to about ₹3.32 lakh over 7 years at 12%. Compare that with PPF’s notified rate only after adjusting for lock-in and equity risk. Past category returns can inform a range; they do not entitle you to type 18% and call it conservative. Recalculate yearly as your slab and 80C headroom change. If the elss tax saving instalment for “ELSS return calculator” looks unaffordable, cut the target or add years before you inflate the assumed return unrealistically.
ELSS tax saving calculator
Tax saving is the headline for many ELSS searches. Eligible amount is capped at ₹1.5 lakh; at a 30% slab plus 4% cess the sample saves about ₹46,800. If you already max 80C via EPF and PPF, extra ELSS buys equity exposure without extra deduction. Under the new regime the deduction disappears even though the fund remains an equity product—switch the mental model to pure investment, not tax. After you accept the “ELSS tax saving calculator” maths, update nominees and the bank mandate—process gaps undo an otherwise sound elss tax saving plan.
ELSS tax benefit calculator
Tax benefit here means the 80C deduction times your marginal rate with cess, not a rebate refunded as cash beyond your liability. The default 30% slab case shows roughly ₹46,800 on a full ₹1.5 lakh claim. Lower slabs save less; a 5% slab claim is a much smaller rupee benefit for the same lock-in. Always check remaining 80C room after EPF, life insurance premiums and home-loan principal. Recalculate the “ELSS tax benefit calculator” path after a job change, new loan or family addition rather than relying on last year’s elss tax saving screenshot.
ELSS investment calculator
Beyond tax, ELSS is simply an equity investment with a statutory lock-in. The investment calculator view emphasises projected value—about ₹3.32 lakh after 7 years at 12% on ₹1.5 lakh—alongside the tax line. Use it to decide whether ELSS or a flexible diversified equity fund fits goals beyond three years. Caution: lock-in does not remove market risk; it only removes the option to exit early. Point relatives to a mid-horizon row on the elss tax saving year-wise table when discussing “ELSS investment calculator”; a middle checkpoint persuades better than only the final corpus.

Frequently asked questions
Does ELSS work under the new tax regime?
The 80C deduction does not apply under the new regime. You can still hold ELSS for equity exposure, but this page’s tax-saved line is for the old regime.
How does the 3-year lock-in work for an ELSS SIP?
Each instalment locks for three years from its allotment date. The unlock schedule illustrates that staggered pattern.
What 80C limit is used?
Eligible investment is capped at ₹1.5 lakh for the tax-saved calculation, with 4% cess applied on the tax.
Are ELSS gains tax-free?
No. Long-term equity gains above the annual exemption are taxed under rules in force; the growth figure is pre-tax.
ELSS vs PPF for tax saving?
ELSS has a 3-year lock-in and market-linked returns; PPF has a longer lock and a notified rate. Compare risk and liquidity, not only tax.
Can I invest more than ₹1.5 lakh in ELSS?
Yes, but only ₹1.5 lakh counts for 80C in a year under the old regime. Extra amounts still stay invested.
Is the projected value guaranteed?
No. It compounds your assumed return and ignores LTCG. Markets can deliver more or less.
Can an advisor reuse these inputs?
Yes. Share the inputs and the result screenshot with an AMFI-registered distributor so they can map the maths to products without changing the formula.
