XIRR calculator for SIP and mutual funds

An XIRR calculator estimates the annualised return of money invested on different dates, such as a monthly SIP. Enter the SIP amount, tenure and final value to see invested total and XIRR.

Default result

A ₹10,000/month SIP for 5 years ending at ₹8.00 L is an XIRR of about 11.43% a year. Absolute gain is ₹2.00 L.

Year-wise table

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the monthly SIP amount and how many years it ran.
  2. Enter the current or final portfolio value.
  3. Read total invested and the solved XIRR.

Formula and worked example

Cash flows are modelled as equal monthly outflows (negative) from a fixed start date, plus a single positive final value at the end of the tenure. XIRR is solved with Newton-Raphson so the net present value of all flows is zero. For irregular top-ups, export dated flows from your statement for a precise figure.

Assumptions and limits

  • Assumes a clean level monthly SIP from a fixed start date plus one final value.
  • Skipped months, STPs and dividends will change a real statement XIRR.
  • Solved numerically; extreme inputs may fail to converge.

Results are illustrations. Actual outcomes depend on markets, interest rates, taxes and charges, none of which are guaranteed.

XIRR calculator for SIP

XIRR is the right performance measure when money moves on many dates. This SIP-oriented calculator builds a level monthly series and solves for the annualised rate that fits your final value. A ₹10,000 SIP for 60 months ending at ₹8 lakh yields about 11.427331446412522% XIRR in the sample. That is not the same as typing 12% into a SIP future-value tool—the rate is inferred from outcomes, not assumed up front. Write the xirr inputs you trust into your annual review note so next year’s rerun of “XIRR calculator for SIP” starts from recorded figures.

Mutual fund XIRR calculator

AMC apps quote XIRR on folios because SIPs, redemptions and switches break simple CAGR. Use this page for a clean SIP-shaped cash-flow sketch before you dig into statements. The default series lands near 11.427331446412522% XIRR. If your real folio has pauses or extra lumpsums, the statement XIRR will differ—import those dates when you need audit-level accuracy. Still, a clean model teaches whether a finish value implies double-digit annualised performance. When household opinions differ on risk for xirr under “Mutual fund XIRR calculator”, fund the more conservative case first and treat any extra debit as optional top-ups.

XIRR calculator Excel

Excel’s XIRR function needs every cash-flow date and amount; negative for investments, positive for redemptions. This webpage mirrors that idea for a regular SIP without forcing you to build the sheet. Matching the sample (₹10,000 monthly for five years, ₹8 lakh final) should land close to 11.427331446412522% in Excel if dates align. When Excel returns #NUM!, cash flows may never cross zero—check signs and the final redemption value. If the xirr instalment for “XIRR calculator Excel” looks unaffordable, cut the target or add years before you inflate the assumed return unrealistically.

XIRR SIP

“XIRR SIP” searches usually want proof that a systematic plan actually delivered a certain annualised return. Plug the instalment, tenure and current value to see the implied XIRR—about 11.427331446412522% on the defaults. Compare it with the return you assumed when you started; a large gap warrants a portfolio review, not a panic redeem. Remember XIRR is historical. It does not lock next year’s performance. After you accept the “XIRR SIP” maths, update nominees and the bank mandate—process gaps undo an otherwise sound xirr plan.

Frequently asked questions

How is XIRR different from CAGR?

CAGR needs one start and one end value. XIRR handles many dated cash flows, which is how SIPs work.

Why might the solver fail?

If cash flows never change sign appropriately or values are extreme, numerical methods may not converge. Adjust inputs and retry.

Can I model skipped SIP months?

Not in detail here. Approximate by shortening tenure or lowering the average monthly amount, or use Excel with exact dates.

Should the final value include exit load?

Use the amount you would actually receive after loads and before personal tax for a cash-in-hand XIRR.

Is XIRR after tax?

Only if your final value is after tax. Most statement XIRRs are pre-tax.

What start date should I pick?

Any consistent date works for a regular monthly series; spacing of months matters more than the calendar label.

Can I enter lumpsum plus SIP?

This simplified tool is SIP-shaped. Mixed cash flows belong in a full XIRR sheet.

Can an advisor reuse these inputs?

Yes. Share the inputs and the result screenshot with an AMFI-registered distributor so they can map the maths to products without changing the formula.
