Mutual fund lumpsum returns on real NAV data

No need to search first. Below are ten well-known schemes across every fund category, with real trailing returns already worked out from their actual historical NAV. Pick one to put your own amount and date against it, or look up any other AMFI-listed scheme.

Past performance is not a guarantee of future results. Figures use published AMFI NAVs, exclude exit load and capital-gains tax, and are for education only - not investment advice.

How this is calculated

We look up the scheme’s NAV on (or the first trading day after) your chosen investment date, and divide your amount by it to get the number of units you would have bought. We then multiply those units by the scheme’s most recent published NAV to get today’s value. The annualised return (CAGR) is shown once the holding period is at least a year; shorter periods show the plain absolute return instead, which is how the figures behave on other calculators of this kind.

The exact formula

units = amount ÷ NAV on invest date
current value = units × latest NAV
absolute return = (current value − amount) ÷ amount
CAGR           = (current value ÷ amount)^(1 ÷ years) − 1

Worked example. ₹1,00,000 invested on 1 Jan 2016 in a scheme whose NAV was ₹32.50 that day buys 3,076.92 units. If the latest NAV is ₹95.10, those units are worth about ₹2,92,566 today, an 11.3% CAGR over roughly 10.7 years.

Results reflect what already happened to this scheme. They are not a promise about what it, or any fund, will return in future. Figures exclude exit load and tax on capital gains.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the regular Lumpsum Calculator?
The Lumpsum Calculator on our /tools page projects forward using a return rate you assume. This one looks backward: it uses a real scheme’s actual published NAV history, so the return shown is what genuinely happened, not an estimate.
Where does the NAV data come from?
From AMFI (the Association of Mutual Funds in India), the official body every AMC reports NAVs to. We do not use any distributor’s own figures.
What if my chosen date was not a trading day?
Mutual funds only strike a NAV on business days. If you pick a weekend or holiday, we use the next available NAV date and tell you exactly which date was used.
Does this include exit load or capital gains tax?
No. The current value shown is before any exit load and before tax on the gains. Both would reduce the amount you actually receive on redemption.
